Our Pastor
PASTOR S. E. HARRIS
Pastor S. E. Harris is a native of Huntsville, 'Walker County" Texas. He was baptized at an early age and united with the New Zion Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of his father, the late Rev. A. C. Harris.
He attended elementary and high school in Huntsville and wasa participant in basketball and band. During the summer of 1959 and 1960 he was privileged to practice with Kashmere High School Band, Houston, TX, under the Directorship of the late Mr. C. Johnson. In 1960 , he moved to Houston and enrolled in Texas Southern University and played in the Texas Southern Tiger Band. Then in 1961, he married the late, Miss Aline Collins. They reared two children, Ann and Kenneth andenjoy two grandsons, Brandon and Marcus.
In 1961 he united with Bethlehem B. C., Rev. M. L.Jackson,Pastor; confessed his Calling to the Ministry, Easter Sunday night, 1962; preached his first sermon in April 1962 and was ordained November, 1966. Reverend Harris has served as pastor of two churches. He was called to Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Huntsville. TX in 1968 and served as pastor for four years. Then, in 1972, God commissioned him to serve as Pastor of St. Rest.
Endeavoring to better prepare himself for God's work, he enrolled in four years of study at Union Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Houston, Texas, where he earned his Bachelor of Theology Degree in May, 1979 . He continues to study and meditate on God's Word as he preaches the Gospel. teaches bible lessons at workshops, and conducts Institutes across the city and preaches revivals. Pastor Harris is an Executive Board Member and Officer of South Texas District Regular Missionary Baptist Association of Texas, Rev. Acie Jefferson,Moderator.
Our Pastor considers himself as merely a servant and his greatest accomplishment has been that of winning souls to Christ. Numerous souls have been saved, baptized, and former members have been restored to the church. Pastor Harris continues to share his God-given visions for this church as he moves forward under the directions of the Holy Spirit.
